Punjabi Church and Missio Dei- The Indian subcontinent is indispensable in missiology and the advancement of World Christianity. The Punjab Missionary Conference 1862-1863,[1] a pivotal event in global mission, was held in Lahore (currently Pakistan). It brought together members from the Church of England, American Presbyterian Church, American Reformed Presbyterian Church, American United Presbyterian Church, Church of Scotland, and American Methodist Episcopal Church, as well as lay members and provisional committees, setting the stage for the upcoming mission conferences. Before the 50th anniversary of the Lausanne Conference (1974-2024) and the centenary celebration of the Edinburgh Missionary Conference (1910-2010), Punjab in North India played a central role in global missions. The Punjab Missionary Conference set the precedence for future mission conferences. With Christianity’s center of gravity having shifted from the global North to the global South, the emergence and proliferation of global South Christianities in the last few decades, the 170th Anniversary Conference of the Punjabi Church is a pivotal moment in the narrative of missio Dei.
